About the municipality
Bartniczka lies in the eastern part of Brodnica County, on the border of the Dobrzyń Lake District and the Lubawa Upland. The municipality has an elongated shape — about 21 km long and about 6 km wide — and its northern border is marked by the Drwęca River.
The name comes from barcie and bartnicy (forest beekeeping), and the trunk of a beehive tree is the emblem on the commune's coat of arms. The beekeeping tradition lives on here to this day, and its symbol is the annual Honey Festival.
The municipality lies within the Górzno-Lidzbark Landscape Park, the protected landscape area "Dolina Drwęcy" and the Green Lungs of Poland. The Brynica, Pissa and Samionka rivers flow here, and the largest bodies of water are Lake Samińskie (ok. 50 ha) and Lake Gutowo. Forests, fields and meadows invite walks, bike trips and peaceful relaxation away from the bustle of the city.
