Brama Gallery – Chełmińska Gate in Brodnica

Last updated: 12.10.2026

The Chełmińska Gate, called the Stone Gate, was built between 1310–1330 and was raised around 1370. It was part of Brodnica's medieval fortifications; renovated in 1898 with a partial reconstruction of the gables. In the 19th century it served as a prison, and in the 1970s, together with the adjoining small townhouse, it was adapted to house the museum.

The gate is square in plan, has two storeys, stepped gables with pinnacles and semicircularly closed blind arches. From the north a fragment of the gate's neck has survived, and a wooden portcullis (grate) has been reconstructed at the entrance.

Currently the Chełmińska Gate operates as a gallery, and in the small townhouse on Mały Rynek there are temporary exhibition rooms where the Museum regularly presents painting, sculpture and archaeological exhibitions.

Tickets: regular PLN 8, reduced PLN 5; pass for all sites PLN 20 / PLN 10. Address: ul. Mały Rynek 4, Brodnica.
